VIA train cancellations and delays: Transport minister condemns “unacceptable” situation

Many trains were canceled or sometimes delayed by more than 18 hours because of the winter storm, much to the chagrin of users and the transport minister.

Due to the Canadian National (CN) train derailment, VIA Rail has canceled all scheduled December 25th trains from Toronto to Ottawa and Montreal.

“The CN train derailment earlier today has forced VIA Rail to cancel all scheduled services between Toronto and Ottawa and between Toronto and Montreal on December 25th,” the railway company tweeted.

Since Friday, many commuters who wanted to take the train for their Christmas trips have been stuck on VIA trains for sometimes 18 hours as the storm hit several provinces.
