“My daughter and her husband have done everything to act responsibly. In an instant, their beautiful life plans were shattered, ”said Kathy Boomer.
On the night of May 21-22, her daughter Vicky Boomer was driving with her boyfriend on the Témiscamingue Boulevard in Rouyn-Noranda when an oncoming vehicle collided head-on with their car.
Reverse
The force of the impact set the couple’s vehicle on fire. Vicky left the car regardless of the severity of his injuries. His comrade Yannick Duval, 23, died in prison from the fire.
“My daughter has to fight to recover, but she too has to live with Yannick’s death. There is no cure for a broken heart, ”said Kathy Boomer.
Her daughter suffered multiple fractures to her legs, eight ribs, one hip and one leg. She also has bruises.
The other driver, a 22-year-old from the Rouyn-Noranda area, was also seriously injured. Shortly before the catastrophic collision, he was seen driving erratically, especially when we were able to see him driving on the opposite lane, we learned.
A blood sample was then taken. Sûreté du Québec police will try to determine if he was driving with weak abilities when he collided with the car Vicky was driving.
Wrong choice
“Accidents, I know it’s possible. But if what happened to my daughter and Yani was the fault of the person who made the wrong choice, it’s unacceptable, it could have been avoided,” Kathy Boomer began.
On the evening of the tragedy, her daughter and her boyfriend were returning in the evening with friends in the sand pit. Yannick was drinking, but Vicky was not. So the young man left his pick-up on the spot and returned home with his wife.
In the meanwhile they are engaged in a terrible conflict.
With the onset of summer and its participation in festive events, Ms.Me Beaumere asks drivers to take responsibility.
“With graduation balls, campgrounds or BBQs coming up, we need to send a message: Light! We do not drive under the influence of alcohol. Make the right choices, ”he said.
“To those who want to get drunk and take the car, I say to them: ‘Think of my daughter who is going to fight to get my health back on track. To Yani, who is no longer there to continue his story with her, ”said the mother.
Destroyed projects
In a five-year relationship, Yannick, who worked in the mines, and Vicky, a bachelor of criminals, recently owned a home.
“All of their life plans were set in motion, which was a real shame. The family plan was coming. They had bought the house in anticipation of this. They were a responsible little couple, and they deserved to continue for a long time,” Kathy Boomer said with tears in her eyes.
“My daughter needs to rebuild her life and learn to live by accepting what she cannot change,” the mother whispered.
Poor driving record
The driver, a 22-year-old man who allegedly caused a dangerous frontal collision at ABDP-Demiscomming, has been convicted of aggravated highway violations of the Highway Safety Code since 2018 (See other text above)
Despite his young age, the individual has already suffered from severe leg cramps a few times, in addition to reckless driving and even when his license was suspended.
Careless driving
In 2019, he was fined $ 1,000 for reckless driving. The circumstances of this crime are unknown, but according to the Highway Safety Code it is a speed or act that could endanger a person’s life or safety.
At the same time, he not only drove carelessly, but also lost his driver’s license and did so without a license.
Heavy leg
In the summer of 2018, in just a few weeks, he received three speed tickets. One time he was driving at 120km / h in the 90th zone and another 124km / h in the 90th zone, when the permissible limit was 50, he was stopped when he reached 84km / h.
In recent years, the young man has been pinned twice by police for failing to pay his record.
We avoid naming him because he did not face any charges in connection with the May 22 horrific clash in Ruin-Noranda.
