Californians may soon have a harder time making dinner reservations. The 2024 Michelin Guide California honored several new restaurants with the organization’s coveted stars during a ceremony Monday night at the Ritz-Carlton in Half Moon Bay.

Recent honorees include Hilda & Jesse’s in San Francisco and Holbox Mexican Restaurant in Los Angeles.

Vespertine in Los Angeles, Sons & Daughters in San Francisco and Aubergine in Carmel-by-the-Sea have all received two Michelin stars, while seven new restaurants have received one star. While any Michelin rating is an honor, the highest a restaurant can receive is three stars.

Vespertine also received a Green Star award, in recognition of its commitment to sustainability. Chef Jordan Kahn showed off to the crowd: Michelin Guide The restaurant sources all of its ingredients “ethically from organic, wild or biodynamic sources.”

Two restaurants—Sushi Ginza Onodera and Naka—have been downgraded from two stars to one. Five others have lost their Michelin stars entirely, including Kyo Sushi in downtown Los Angeles.
